Harrow Way Eco Club

Recently, energy prices have been through the roof, but there are ways to help reduce your bills. Harrow Way Eco Club have come up with some tips to help.

OUR ECO TIPS

  • Tip 1: Turn off your devices at the wall instead of keeping them on standby. It might not seem like much, but keeping your television on standby can cost you up to £24.53 every year. When added with the costs of your microwave, Playstation and kettle, you could be saving more than £100 on energy every year.

  • Tip 2: Turn down your thermostat by one or two degrees. By doing this, you could be saving around £145 a year. If you draught proof your doors and windows, you could save up to £125 every year on your heating bill.

  • Tip 3: Use the tumble dryer less often. If you put the tumble dryer on every day for an hour, you will spend around £5.95 a week which is £23.80 a month or £309.40 a year. By letting clothes air dry outside or by hanging them up inside, you can save a significant amount of money on your bills.

  • Tip 4: Use the washing machine less often. It costs about £0.41 per cycle to run a washing machine. This adds up to £149.24 per year if you use the washing machine daily. To save on this, you could wear some clothes like jeans and jumpers more than once so you don’t need to use the machine as often. You could also wash your clothes at a lower temperature which not only uses less electricity but is also kinder to the environment, and to more delicate fabrics.

We hope you have found these tips useful.
