Harrow Way students and teachers are celebrating another impressive year of GCSE results this morning with news that the school has once again delivered an outstanding performance. In a year which saw the school rated by Ofsted as ‘good with many outstanding strengths and features’, close to 75% of the cohort achieved grade 9 to 4 in English, and 72% achieved a grade 9 to 4 in Maths. An impressive 25% of the cohort achieved grades 9-7 in English.
The 2023 GCSE results mark the end of Headteacher Michael Serridge’s 11 years at the school. Commenting on the students’ successes he said: “I could not wish for a better way to conclude my time here at Harrow Way. I am so proud of the class of 2023 and the way they committed to their studies this year which has seen them deliver a brilliant set of results.
“I must also take this opportunity to applaud and thank all the teachers and support team for their dedication and hard work. We pride ourselves on exceptional teaching and learning, the evidence of which we see here today with students celebrating their achievements. I’d like to thank my colleagues for all their support over the last 11 years and wish the departing Year 11s every success in their future endeavours.”
This is the first year that GCSEs have largely returned to normal. During the pandemic, results were higher as exams could not go ahead. As the normal grading system returned this summer, the exams regulator has indicated that grades will be lower than last year but similar to 2019 levels.
Performing and Visual Arts continue to be a real strength at Harrow Way, with Art, Photography, Dance, Drama and Music all achieving an incredible 100% pass rate. Catering and Polish also achieved 100%.
There were some stand-out performances with a number of students celebrating a huge haul of top grades, including Daisy Barr, Hilary Hurcomb, Jisa Matthews, Head Boy Tom Bedwell and Ciara O’Riordon. Deputy Head Girls Alicia Whitehouse and Keira Spear, Faith Davis and Amy Hesslegrave are also celebrating impressive results.
Harrow Way will be hosting an Open Evening on Thursday 28th September 2023, 6pm to 8.30pm for prospective families wishing to learn more about the school. Open Mornings will also be held on Tuesday 3rd October and Thursday 5th October 2023, 9.30am to 11am.
