Monday 28th June was an important day for some Year 5 pupils. They had been chosen by their schools to be Bronze Ambassadors and receive their training from Miss Sturges, Alice Longshaw and Jonathan Akehurst, Harrow Way’s Silver Ambassadors.
Like Silver Ambassadors, Bronze Ambassadors are chosen because of their dedication to sport and leadership qualities. Their roles will include:
- Promoting the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games
- Promoting the Olympic and Paralympic Values in their school
- Giving a short presentation eg in Assembly
- Acting as a role model throughout their school by promoting sport
- Creating a school competition to promote the Values.
- Assisting in the organisation and running of an Intra school sporting event
Jaden and Callum from Kimpton, Corey and Tamsin from Knights Enham Juniors and Sammi and Elouise from Roman Way joined Alice and Jon for the afternoon and had a great time! They received new T-shirts to wear, played a great game with guttering and balls (it was only slightly competitive!) and learned to play New Age Kurling, a totally inclusive game which they can use back at school to run a competition.
Then into the ICT suite where they were able to explore the Get Set website and create their own PowerPoint presentation. They can use this back at their schools to share the Olympic and Paralympic Values with their school friends.
All the students were a credit to their schools and agreed they had had a busy but super afternoon! Miss Sturges would like to thank them all, but especially Alice and Jon who were not only an inspiration to the Year 5s, but gave up a free afternoon to help.
Miss Sturges is now looking forward to meeting the Bronze Ambassadors from Portway Junior and Appleshaw St Peter’s Schools, who were unable to make this training afternoon.
