On one of the first sunny afternoons of the summer Harrow Way returned to the square for the first of the season’s cricket fixtures. A promising year seven and eight mixed side took on a predominantly year eight John Hanson side away on Tuesday 3rd May.
Harrow Way opted to bowl first due to a strong bowling line up that included a number of our first years. Early wickets saw hope of a commanding victory but theses hopes were soon dashed as John Hanson’s middle order rallied well and put some runs on the board. A late wobble meant Harrow Way nearly kept the total below a ton before the innings was over. Despite their shaky start John Hanson pieced together a very respectable 102/5 run total for Harrow Way to beat. However, this was not to be the case.
With two vital wickets falling for limited runs in the first and third overs Harrow Way looked to be on the precipice of disaster. A notable mention must be made to Neo Black at number three, who in his first match for Harrow Way batted through nearly all of the remaining overs to keep the visitors alive throughout a tight innings. Sadly the long grass in the out field along with some good line bowling saw Harrow Way’s young guns post a final innings score of 71/6. A work in progress but with so much young talent on display it surely won’t be long before we see the results the work deserved!
