Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts in our recent parent survey. Your feedback is invaluable, and we are grateful for your positive comments about the strengths of our school.
We were particularly pleased to hear that so many parents value the dedication and expertise of our teaching staff. Their commitment to ensuring students feel supported, motivated, and challenged is a key strength of our school. We are proud of the positive relationships they build with students, which help create a respectful and focused learning environment.
Many of you highlighted our communication as a significant strength, especially through our tutor system and the way staff respond to concerns. We are committed to maintaining this strong communication across all year groups to ensure parents feel informed and involved in their child's education.
Our pastoral care was also praised, with parents acknowledging the caring and supportive environment we strive to provide. The work of our pastoral team, including our dedicated SEND team, ensures that students feel safe, valued, and able to thrive.
We were delighted to hear positive comments about our extra-curricular activities. From clubs and sports to trips and residentials, we are committed to providing students with enriching experiences beyond the classroom. We believe these opportunities are vital for developing confidence, teamwork, and life skills.
Equally encouraging was the recognition of our high expectations for behaviour, promoting respect and positive conduct throughout the school. This focus on clear standards helps to create a calm and purposeful learning environment for all students.
Lastly, we are proud of the strong sense of community that you identified. The dedication of our staff, the values we promote, and the support we receive from parents and carers all contribute to making Harrow Way a school where students can flourish.
Thank you once again for your feedback. We are committed to building on these strengths, but we also recognise the thoughtful suggestions many of you made on how we can refine and improve our practice. We will be sharing a visual summary to keep you informed about our plans moving forward.

Simon Says
We are proud to share that we are working towards becoming a Simon Says Champion School. Simon Says is a charity dedicated to supporting children and young people who have been bereaved, offering guidance and resources to help them navigate their grief.

|
This important step is part of Ryan’s legacy — a way for us to honour his memory while strengthening the support we provide to students who have lost someone close to them. By becoming a Champion School, we will ensure our staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills to offer compassionate care and practical support during such difficult times. We are committed to fostering a community where no young person feels alone in their grief.

What is your child learning? We are incredibly proud of the rich and ambitious curriculum we offer at Harrow Way, and we want to ensure parents feel well-informed about what their children are learning. Our website has a dedicated Curriculum section that outlines our vision for learning, with detailed information for each subject area.
|
|
|
|
Here, you'll find curriculum maps showing what students will be learning each half term, alongside the purpose of each subject — what we aim for students to know, do, and understand as a result of our teaching. You'll also find helpful information about assessment in each subject. We encourage you to take a look — it’s a fantastic resource to help you stay informed about your child’s learning journey.
BBC Documentary Some of you may know that a few of our Year 11 students were interviewed for a BBC documentary during Careers Week? The journalist who interviewed them praised the group for their wide-ranging views and the way they were able to articulate them. Congratulations to these young people who represented us so well. The programme, “Britain’s Shrinking Army” is airing on Radio 4 on Sunday at 1.30pm in case you wanted to listen.
Yr 9 Positive Relationships Day On 3rd April, all Year 9 students will be off timetable during the morning for a Personal Development day which is focusing on positive relationships. During the day, they will be taking time to explore issues related to sexual harassment, consent, and the law. The aim of the day is to help students make better choices and inform decisions around making positive relationships.

LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE UPDATE

We have continued to mark Women's History Month and this week the spotlight fell on sportswomen. It was also NeuroDiversity Celebration Month which we marked with fiction and non-fiction ('shelf help') books as well as an information display and posters about famous people who are neuro divergent. Many students said that they were much more aware of individual differences as a result and that would modify their approach to others.
We continue to work on our VE Day commemoration plans and more information will be made available nearer the time. The Bunting and Bake Ration Biscuits House competitions launched this week. If anyone has contacts who may have photos, memories, clothing from that time, we'd love to hear from you at library@harrowway.hants.sch.uk Thank you.
Many emails to families and students have gone out this week in our pursuit of having overdue items returned and we look forward to being reunited with lots of stock before sending bills for replacement. Here is a copy of the Reimbursement Policy. Thank you.

Flavia’s Football Success! At the weekend Flavia took part in a cadets sports competition where she did very well indeed! She picked to take part in the football tournament and this involved an hours training session followed by 5 matches. She was selected to be in the top tier competition based on her performance during the training. Her team won all their matches, Flavia scoring 8 goals in the first 2 matches. At the end of the day they went on a parade to receive their air cadet medals and Flavia was awarded player of the tournament by the RAF regional sports leader. Well done Flavia!

Year 9 and Year 10 Rugby 7’s On Tuesday our Year 9 and our Year 10 rugby teams competed in the annual district Rugby 7’s tournament at John Hanson. 7’s rugby is very different to the 15 a-side game that our boys are used to. With ample room to run on the pitch but limited numbers in defense it makes for an exciting fast paced version of the game.
The Year 9 teams in the district are very competitive and following on from last week's tournament the Year 9’s knew it would be a tough day at the office. I guess the area of our game that is a strength is the upfront battle, the contact zone which is something we struggle to stay away from in this format. Whilst keeping the ball alive well in the contact zone, it just tired our players too much and we finished fourth overall. Score 5-24 against JH, 0-25 against Wellington and 10-12 against Testbourne.
|
|
|
The Year 10 team who have had more experience of this format and looking to retain their title from last year were impressive with many of the other coaches commenting on their understanding of the game and how well they retained possession. Their first performance should their dominance beating Testbourne 32-0, JH was a close battle however we stuck to the game plan, retained the ball and defended courageously to win 20-10 and then the boys started really enjoying the running rugby to beat Wellington 40-10. Outstanding performance! Mrs German would like to recognise this achievement by providing a celebration breakfast on Wednesday 2nd April.

Well done to all the players. 7’s rugby is a tough game!
Netball Year 7A Harrow Way 16b- 9 Clere An anticipated match this week, the first time Harrow Way had played The Clere at netball, so they did not know what to expect. They started well, a confident quarter scoring 4 goals to The Clere’s 2. Isabelle made some great shots on target, which were fed to her by our excellent centre Riya. The second quarter was a little bit tighter as The Clere upped their game, each team only scoring 2 goals. The third and fourth quarter saw Harrow Way continue to score and move brilliantly up and down the court. Natalie made some fantastic interceptions and Hollie and Alani worked together and did a great job at keeping the ball out of the circle. Well done girls, a great game! Player of The Match - Riya. Coaches Player - Natalie.
Harrow Way Year 8A 5 - 11 The Clere In the early spring sunshine on Tuesday, the 8A team found it tricky against a slick Clere team. Despite keeping the scores even at 2 apiece at the end of the first quarter, and only 5-4 down at half time, they struggled to create shooting opportunities in the second half of the game. Laila worked tirelessly in the centre court and Nicole and Skyla prevented the ball from entering the opposition goal circle on countless occasions. However, it just wasn’t to be this week, with the eventual score ending up 11-5. Player of the match - Skyla. Coach’s player - Nicole.
Year 7B Harrow Way 9 - 6 Danebury (friendly) Danebury visited Harrow Way for a friendly match against our Year 7 B team. The game got off to a quick start with a very tight first quarter and both teams scoring 2 goals. Danebury’s defence was very strong, however, Eva was making some great interceptions, getting the ball back in Harrow Way’s hands. The second quarter was another close one, finishing 5-4 to Danebury. Hollie and Jessica worked together brilliantly as GS and GA making some great shots throughout. The third quarter only saw 1 goal, finishing up 5 all. Everything to play for in the final quarter, Harrow Way had found their flow and Danebury seemed to have lost theirs. Brooke continued to demonstrate lovely movement around the court as centre and Charlotte our WD worked very hard. The game finished 9-6 to Harrow Way. Fantastic effort girls! Player of the match- Hollie S. Coaches Player- Eva.
Harrow Way Year 8B 8 - 10 Danebury The 8B were hoping to continue their unbeaten run this season against Danebury. On a sunny afternoon, the team made a bright start but unfortunately ended the first quarter 2-3 down. A slip in concentration and lack of shooting opportunities throughout the second quarter meant that they had to draw back 4 goals in the next 2 quarters as they were now 6-2 down.
The team really knuckled down and tightened up their defence. Hollie P, stepping up from the Year 7 team played superbly as GD making numerous interceptions and then calmly passing the ball on to create a new attack. Willow had a very tough and agile opponent in her GS but she marked tightly, giving away very little space for the GS to receive a pass. Pops and Ruby C were mismatched with their opponents but played tactically well to draw out Danebury’s defenders to create space to receive passes close to the post.
Despite winning the last 2 quarters, the team couldn’t quite close the gap, eventually losing 10-8. Player of the match - Erica. Coach’s player - Willow.

Year 9 Harrow Way 35 - 6 Rookwood (friendly) A great friendly match on Thursday for our Year 9 girls, the first time they have played together since before Christmas, but you couldn’t tell! The girls got off to a very strong start scoring 5 goals in the first quarter. Dotty and Lucy are the dream team when it comes to shooting, Rookwood was not sure what to do.
|
|
|
|
The second quarter saw much of the same with Harrow Way taking their goals to 18 and Rookwood only on 4 goals. Ishana worked hard as GD to keep the ball out of the opposing side's end and she was successful. Ellamaya and Izzy were making some great interceptions throughout. The team found their flow quickly and held strong. The match finished 35 - 6. Player of the match went to Ishana and Lucy.

|
|
Year 10 Harrow Way 16 -1 Rookwood (friendly) Another cracking match on Thursday for our Year 10 team who were excited to play some netball together for the first time in a while. The girls took a little while to warm up, however, they still managed to keep their cool with Sophie and Adrianna working hard on the defence. By the third quarter the girls had found their groove and there was no stopping them. The game finished 16 - 1 to Harrow Way. Player of the Match went to Aimee.
