Calling all 9-12-year-olds who would like to find out more about the climate crisis and what you as a young person can do about it to take action and make your voice heard!
Thursday 20th February 9am – 5pm, Harmony Woods, Andover
Andover Trees United https://www.andovertrees.org.uk/ supports United Nations Youth Environment Programme ‘Plant-for-the-Planet’ https://www.plant-for-the-planet.org/: Empowering Young Climate Leaders across the globe
To celebrate 10 years since Andover’s first Plant-for-the-Planet Academy, held in 2014 and attended by the renowned conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall, Andover Trees United is thrilled to announce the first Academy to take place in their newly completed woodland education centre, The Cabin in Harmony Woods – itself planted by 10000 local children.
Plant-for-the-Planet Academies are a global initiative empowering young people to take action against climate change through tree planting and climate justice advocacy.
Led by young people, the Academy is a day of games, finding out stuff, learning new skills and making a difference. Those who complete the Academy here in Andover, at the UK’s only Plant-for-the-Planet Academy, will join 100000 other Climate Justice Ambassadors worldwide in standing up for a happy, healthy planet.
Plant-for-the-Planet was founded by then 9-year-old Felix Finkbeiner as a means of young people worldwide demonstrating to the adults of the world that action – not just talking – is needed to address the climate crisis. Following Felix’s inspiring address to the United Nations in 2011 when he was 12, the global tree planting initiative ‘Plant a Billion Trees’ which had begun as Africa’s Green Belt Movement, founded by Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai, was officially handed over to the children of the world. Today, the movement is governed by an international board of young trustees aged 10-14, dedicated to the message: ‘Stop talking and start planting!’
