Under 13 – Tuesday 13th June 2017

A promising team lead by County player Josh Banks-Williams headed to John Hanson with high hopes of improving on years past and aims of announcing Harrow Way as contenders in the District Cricket scene. Year 7 debutants Arshed, Holloway and Pardy all performed to a very high standard despite a lack of experience, with Pardy taking responsibility behind the wickets in a particularly mature display. Harrow Way finished 2nd (of 8) falling in the final against an older John Hanson side. Full reports below:

The opening match saw Harrow Way demonstrate formidable bowling in reducing Rookwood to 21 all out within the five over limit. Captain Banks-Williams with two wickets in the opening over and the impressive Faseeh Arshed picking up two in the following over highlighted our young side’s ability with the ball. With the bat Harrow Way were able to finish the game quickly Banks-Williams hitting 21 and Mcdermott playing counter bat with 4 chased down the Rookwood total within 2 overs.

The semi-final saw Harrow Way open the batting against The Clere and old Colleague Mr Peters. The opening duo of Mcdermott and Banks-Williams played aggressively and racked up a formidable team total of 75 with no loss of wicket. Banks-Williams retiring on 27 and Mcdermott (not out) finished the innings with Neo Black on 15. Clere batted well but were unable to respond to the Harrow Way total, being held to 37 of five overs.

In the final Harrow Way looked to overcome a John Hanson side comprised completely of Year 8 students. After electing to bowl Harrow Way seemed to have reduced the heavy hitting home side to a reachable target of 42 off of four overs. Neo Black was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2 wickets for 1 run. However, a disastrous final over saw John Hanson reap the benefits of the punishing extra’s ruling and extend their lead to 65. Harrow Way came out to bat knowing they had to hit well off of the talented John Hanson bowling attack but with runs at a premium Banks-williams’ key wicket fell, spectacularly caught behind by the Hanson keeper. Mcdermott came shortly after top scoring with 13 runs. Harrow Way’s remaining young batters didn’t have the necessary fire power and eventually fell short with a total of 43. ​

Cricket Report – Under 15 – Thursday 15th June 2017

Harrow Way’s upper school cricket side headed to John Hanson in the hopes of matching the success of their lower school peers. Debutant James Potter performed admirably and the returning Jed Trengove showed his skill with the Gloves. Sadly they were un-able to conjure up the necessary level of performance and dropped to 3rd (of 4) winning only one of their matches on a windy day at John Hanson. Full reports below:

Match one of the round robin saw Harrow Way take on Test Valley in what was touted as the “race for second place” with a strong John Hanson side expected to take the win. Harrow Way batted first and were slow to start, both West and Hammett inexcusably feeling their way into a five over innings. Despite the tentative start West eventually loosened up and retired on 26, hitting five boundaries along the way. Hesslegrave and Hammett did well to secure some more vital runs at the death and Harrow Way totalled a respectable 54. Test Valley learned from Harrow Way’s tepid opening innings and ran hard amassing a quick 31 of the first two overs before being pegged back by some by some stern bowling by Cox. With Trengove bowling a somewhat leaky over in the fourth Hesslegrave had some hard work to do to reduce Valley to just 8 runs of the final over. Some acrobatic desperation fielding by Potter was not enough deny Test Valley and they secured the win by four runs with one ball left in the innings.

The second fixture saw Harrow Way look to respond against the favourites John Hanson. Batting first again Harrow Way started much brighter with both West and Hesslegrave hitting boundaries in the first two overs. Some good bowling managed to stem the flow of runs and Harrow Way eventually pushed to a total of 55, West top scoring again with 17. With the ball Harrow Way felt confident but a fast outfield made scoring easy off of West’s pacey deliveries, Cox once again bowled well and picked up a wicket caught and bowled. An untidy over from Potter left Hammett with a difficult task and the home side eased to a deserved 3 run win with an over still left to play.

The battle to avoid the wooden spoon came down to Harrow Way and Wellington. Harrow Way once again batted first and gave an opening debut to James Potter and Jed Trengove. In the first over Harrow Way scored well off of extras because of Wellington’s poor bowling with Trengove getting his first competitive single. His wicket was short lived however, bowled in the second over. Hesslegrave steadied the ship and scored some much needed runs with two sixes off two balls before Potter lost his wicket impressively for a duck off of four overs at the crease. Cox came in and finished the innings with Hesslegrave as Harrow Way amassed 61 runs in total. Harrow Way were confident that they could defend their total and made sure of it by putting in a good display of bowling with wickets coming again from Cox and Hammett, winning in the end by ten runs and giving themselves something to move forward with.
