Last week a group of Year 8 Harrow Way students attended the voting for the 2016 Hampshire Book Awards. The students had 3 months to read the 6 shortlisted titles, all published in the last year and voted in the North Hampshire region at Bishop Challoner School, Basingstoke. They spent an hour with neighbouring schools discussing each book prior to casting their vote.
While the schools from across Hampshire eagerly awaited the results they took part in a literacy quiz to test their knowledge on popular fiction books. Later that morning the result was broadcast live via video link.
Looking at the stars’ by Jo Cotterill was the winner by a narrow margin of 29%. Multiple copies of the shortlisted titles, including the winner, are now available in the school library for students to enjoy.
