The Secondary Geography Quality Mark: in recognition of excellence in teaching and learning in geography.
We are delighted to announce that Harrow Way has achieved the Secondary Geography Quality Mark (SGQM), awarded by The Geographical Association.
The SGQM award process encourages and supports schools to reflect on their work and strive for the highest quality in their teaching. All the award winners undergo a rigorous moderation process, and the team of assessors were hugely impressed by the manner in which all are continuing to embrace new and innovative approaches to teaching geography. The SGQM, now into its fifth year, recognises student attainment, progress and achievement in areas such as geographical knowledge, understanding, values, skills and concepts, and sets expectations about the quality of teaching in geography. It aims to promote effective subject leadership and management, helping subject leaders raise the standards of geography in their schools.
Curriculum Leader for Geography, Ms R Calder said:
“We are thrilled to have been awarded The Secondary Geography Quality Mark and it is a real honour to have our school and department recognised by The Geographical Association. We have worked hard to make significant and positive changes to the teaching and learning of Geography at Harrow Way and are looking forward to building upon this success and are aspiring to achieve the Centre of Excellence award in the future. It’s a fantastic way to start off the new school year!”
