The year 9 and 10 girls from Harrow Way took on the might of Kings’ School from Winchester earlier in the month in what was their first ever full contact rugby match! Having spent the past few months preparing for this, the girls approached the match itself with a great deal of optimism and positivity.
Team coaches Mr Reed and Mr Townsend have worked wonders with the squad and built it up from scratch. Against arguably the strongest girls’ rugby team in Hampshire, hosting Kings’ was always going to be a tall order. This did not deter the girls one little bit and although the final score line wasn’t to make very flattering reading, one thing it did demonstrate is that the girls from Harrow Way School are willing to try their hardest and are prepared to go the extra mile and give anything a go.
Mr Reed and Mr Townsend said: “We hope this helps to motivate more girls at Harrow Way to take up rugby. The past few years have seen the boys go from strength to strength, now it’s the girls turn!”
