On Monday 19th March, Michelle Thomas from the School Library Service visited Harrow Way to help us launch The Hampshire Book Award. It is aimed at Year 8 and, this year, fourteen students have been chosen to make up the school’s panel of judges. As part of the awards students have to:
• Read ALL six novels on the shortlist by mid June 2012
• Attend fortnightly ‘in-school’ discussion meetings
• Participate in regional voting
• Be prepared to talk about the books on the shortlist with other students.
Later in June two students will visit Winchester Discovery Centre for the final vote and the winning author will be announced. At a later date all students will then get the chance to meet the author at a prize giving ceremony at Winchester Guildhall.
This year the books are:
Angel – L. A. Weatherly
Burning Secrets – Clare Chambers
Reckless – Cornelia Funke
Theodore Boone – John Grisham
Half Brother – Kenneth Oppel
Outlaw – Stephen Davies
All book are available to borrow from the Library.
