Following two Thursday morning sessions where the Year 7s learned how to lead Tri Golf, the fabulous Year 5 Tri Golf Festival was held in the Harrow Way Sports Hall. Usually an outdoor event, with the high winds blowing it was decided that the competition would be slightly easier indoors!
Three Portway and two Knights Enham Junior teams joined Courtney Friel, Cara Lewis, Cerys Cousins, Caylee Harper-Ronald, Alice Lathie, Lauryn Newman, Vicky Jones, Megan Rawson, Anita Garwolinska and Lauren Cox for an afternoon of fun, team work and competition.
Following a welcome by the Young Leaders, two warm up games to practise putting and chipping started the afternoon’s excitement off. The Year 5 teams were then sent off to their first game: Titanic, Bullseye, Hop the Hazard, Zone Ball, In the Bucket, Splash Down, Dominoes or Bunker Stop! Eight activities later and extremely high scoring meant that the Year 7s had to apply their maths skills all afternoon!
In the closing ceremony, Miss Sturges complimented all the competitors on the Olympic Values of Respect and Friendship that they had shown and also their Excellence in golf. Portway Chippers were the overall winners – well done to them! Miss Sturges also thanked the Year 7s for their outstanding leadership. All agreed it had been a wonderful afternoon!
