From across Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Berkshire and Wiltshire, only ten schools had reached this level of Tag Rugby – and Harrow Way was one of them! Having been committed to their Monday night club during the Spring Term in preparation for this Inter-County tournament, the girls arrived keen and eager to play on Tuesday 5th April.
Â
Wearing their lucky ‘Community Rugby’ shirts, kindly leant to us by Dave Kane of Testway Housing, the girls showed excellent team work and play, scoring many tries. They were very unlucky to lose their first match 4-3 but then went on to win their second against Park House 3-2. Two tough matches followed, with captain Emma Jones encouraging the team on at all times. Following lunch, the team discovered they would be playing South Wilts Grammar in their final match. Again, they were unlucky to lose this game by only one try, the opposition making it hard for free flowing play by their offside play.
Â
Even though the 2010/11 journey was now over, the school did not come away empty handed. Lauryn and Georgina were rewarded for their politeness and smiles by being allowed to keep the tag rugby belts we had been leant! The team is now also looking forward to their certificates and Rugby ‘Goodie Bags’ to arrive in the post!
Â
Miss Sturges, on behalf of the girls and Harrow Way School, would like to thank Elaine Rolfe for her support during the day.
Â
The team were: Emma Jones (Captain), Elle Campbell, Emma Helsdown, Gemma Bennett, Lauryn Newman, Madeline Wickenden, Hannah Allmark, Cerys Cousins, Chloe Maxwell and Georgina Kelly.
