Two Silver Ambassadors and five other members of the Key Stage 3 Leadership Academy arrived early at school last Friday keen to attend the ‘Young People Leading the Way Conference’ at Mountbatten School, Romsey.
Â
Following an Opening Ceremony where they were introduced to famous long jumper JJ Jegede, Laurence Smith, Callum Bendall, Jake Baugh, Chloe Gleed and Robyn Barnes set off for Ice Breaker activities with their new groups, following those, they set off to eight different activities where they would learn new leadership skills.  Callum and Jake headed off to Boccia and the ‘Watt Bikes’. Laurence was able to impress with his skills in Wheelchair Basketball and New Age Kurling, while Chloe loved learning how to lead Speed Stackers. She also had a try at Indoor Rowing. Robyn had a great session learning how to lead Double Dutch as well as how to use the Crazy Catches.  The Harrow Way group was also able to join JJ to find out about how he got into athletics and be inspired by him. While all this was happening, Jordan Simcox and Anthony Wharton were busy supporting Miss Sturges with Wheelchair Basketball and were also preparing for their presentation in the afternoon. Immediately after lunch, the two Year 9 Silver Ambassadors had to stand up in front of everyone, their peers, Key Stage 4 leaders, many teachers and even JJ, and tell everyone how they organised the Year 2/3 Multi Skills Festival last year. They did this fabulously! Pete Faulkner, the organiser of the conference, said: “I would be grateful if you could record my sincere congratulations to Anthony and Jordan for their delivery of their case study – Harrow Way should be justifiably very proud of these two young men!”

Following the conference, the students are now even more inspired with leadership ideas! Chloe and Robyn have already tried out their new leadership skills in ‘Speed Stacking’ and Skipping with the Leadership Academy and Jordan is keen to plan his own Conference! Well done to everyone, a super day!
