Year 7 and 8 girls from Harrow Way Community School took part in the Year 7 and 8 Girls’ Tag Rugby Festival at Winchester Rugby Club this Tuesday. Twenty four teams from across Hampshire had entered the competition.
Considering the very bad conditions (cold, wet and extremely muddy!), the girls did not disappoint. They played five games and won four of them. The team now goes through to the Inter County Competition at Newbury RFC in April where they will face teams from five other counties. The team also took home a shield to place in Harrow Way reception.
Well done to the team: Elle Campbell, Lauryn Newman, Georgina Kelly, Gemma Bennett, Amber Casselton, Hannah Allmark, Madeline Wickenden, Chloe Maxwell, Cerys Cousins and Emma Jones.
Group Games:
Harrow Way v Test Valley 15 – 25
Harrow Way v Toynbee 25 – 5
Harrow Way v Fair View 15 – 5
Final Pool Games:
Harrow Way v Test Valley 20 – 15
Harrow Way v Rookwood 15 – 10
Miss Sturges said, “The team was fantastic! Excellent team work, great catching of the ball, fabulous defence and super tries were scored by everyone! Emma Jones also captained the team brilliantly. She led them from the front, motivating them in the bad weather and encouraging them at all times.”
