This year was the first year players from Harrow Way Rugby Club have entered the Prop Idol competition. Supported by Charles Gray, Andover Rugby Club coach, and older players including former Harrow Way student James Bacon, Dylan Patel, Levi Verscuhren, Owen Woodley and Ruadhan Murray were prepared and ready for the Andover heats.
Although they didn’t win one of only two places in each age group to qualify for the finals, Levi, Dylan, Owen and Ruadhan gave a good account of themselves over the tough two hours of the competition.
Charles said: “Apart from Dylan, who plays for Andover, the only rugby the boys get is at Harrow Way so considering they were up against approximately forty players from Basingstoke, Winchester and Trojans Rugby Clubs, their achievements are significant. Their attention to instruction led by Neil Hatley (London Irish Academy Manager) was good, behaviour excellent and performance very good. They were a credit to themselves and Harrow Way school.”
Andover Rugby Club takes place after school until 4.30 pm, every Thursday.
