A beautiful sunny afternoon welcomed Year 3 and 4 pupils from Portway Junior and Roman Way Primary Schools to the Harrow Way field for their Year 3 and 4 Lions in the Community Football Festival.
Over forty enthusiastic girls and boys, many of whom had never represented their schools before in a competition, were welcomed to Harrow Way by five Year 10 GCSE students: Maddison Douch, Kelly Butler, Connor Docherty, Matthew Pugh and Matthew Piggott. As part of their GCSE PE course their role was to lead a warm up with the young players in their particular team, as well as support them throughout the whole tournament. This they did fabulously and with enjoyment! Thank you to all of you; you were a huge credit to yourselves and our school.
Well done to all the players for their excellent play and for creating such a lovely atmosphere to the afternoon with fair play, sportsmanship and huge smiles all round! A particular well done to Portway Green (in the blue and yellow shirts!) who were the overall winners, winning all their matches, and to Roman Way for winning the impressive Fair Play trophy.
Finally, a big thank you to Lions in the Community referees, Dean Stow and Josh Barnett (an ex Harrow Way student!) and to Cathy Devereux, their manager, for all their support.
