Fifteen Year 7 and 8 athletes from Harrow Way set off on Tuesday 9th February for Alton Rugby Club and the Annual Cross Country Championships. Representing the Mountbatten School Sports Partnership, they had qualified for this event in an earlier round. The earlier round had about twenty in each race; this competition had nearly two hundred!
All fifteen students should be extremely proud of themselves. Not only did they impress Mrs Winnett and Miss Sturges with their positive attitude, behaviour, kindness and high level of team work, encouragement and effort, they also ran exceptionally well with some outstanding individual performances.
For the Year 7 girls, Emma Jones finished first for the Mountbatten team in 41st place. Well done Emma! Kiera Hill and Emily Francis-Pollin also ran well and should be complimented on their high level of enthusiasm and effort in the first race of the afternoon.
The Year 7 boys had a strong team which included Harry Fitzpatrick, Connor Durbridge ( 1st and 2nd for the Mountbatten team), Owen Woodley and Kieron Harrowell (7th and 8th for our team). Good running by all!
Next to run were the Year 8 girls. Holly Eaton also crossed the line first for the Mountbatten SSP team in a very impressive 31st place. Excellent running! Cerys Webb, Coral Stringer and Chantelle Gleed all completed the race in good positions.
Last to race were the Year 8 boys, in what was the longest and hardest race of the day. Matthew Cook impressed us again with his 47th place finish (4th for our team. Callum Twigg , Josh Cornwall and Ross Cutting ran well to make up the rest of the Harrow Way runners.
Thank you and well done to all fifteen competitors – you should be very proud of yourselves!
