Jonathan Akehurst and Alice Longshaw, along with fifteen other young people from the secondary schools within the Mountbatten School Sports Partnership, have been chosen to be Year 10 Silver Young Ambassadors. They follow in the footsteps of Year 11 Laura Gilbank and Harry Crockford and ex-students Elly Vanderplank and James Pawley.
Chosen for their dedication to sport and their leadership qualities, Alice and Jon are looking forward to being Harrow Way’s Silver Ambassadors and are keen to have an impact this year within Harrow Way and its family of primary schools.
Miss Sturges, School Sport Coordinator, will be working alongside them. She attended the recent training day and was very impressed with Jon and Alice’s enthusiasm, high level of interest, ideas and commitment.
“Within our schools, Alice and Jon are keen to promote the Olympic and Paralympic’s Values: respect, excellence, friendship, equality, courage, determination and inspiration. They are also keen to carry out the following four challenges they have been set:
- To bring some Olympic and Paralympic inspiration into an intra school competition in their schools;
- To lead a ‘Values Through Sport’ Assembly in their school and their primary schools;
- To lead a primary schools’ Paralympic Festival;
- To celebrate their work throughout the year during National School Sports Week.”
Thank you to Jon and Alice for a super afternoon; you were a huge credit to yourselves and Harrow Way!
