At the 2009 Harrow Way Year 5 and 6 Cluster Rock-it-ball Festival, two teams from Kimpton School and five teams from Portway Junior School joined each other in the Sports Hall, donned their coloured team bibs and anticipated a great two hours of fun and excitement!
First up were welcomes and a demonstration of what Rock-it-ball is all about (thank you Callum and Mr Smith for allowing me to aim the balls at you!). Then in teams of three, there followed a warm up with fun relays where practise at scooping up the ball, as well as sending the ball underarm and overarm at targets, started the morning. Miss Sturges suggested they imagined they were aiming at their teacher… sorry … but it did work! Great hitting of the targets by all!
Following a demonstration by the Kimpton teams, nine group games were played. Although many Kimpton children had played before, the Portway teams quickly caught on and were soon running with the ball and aiming it at their opposition. Games got closer and closer and more and more exciting! With Kimpton winning both groups, it became a Kimpton final, with the Blue team narrowly beating the Yellow team. Well done to the Portway teams for some super finals of your own.
At the presentation under the Mountbatten School Sports Partnership banner, Miss Sturges praised all the players for their enthusiasm and effort, but especially for their excellent sportsmanship! Mr Hudson, Head of PE, then presented each team with their certificates before handing over the winner’s shield, The Pitts Trophy, to the winning team, Kimpton Blues. The players also received a Frisbee each to enjoy at home!
Thank you to all teams for joining us at Harrow Way Community School. You are a credit to your schools – well done to all of you!
