On Wednesday 17th June, 55 students from Year 7 and 8 attended the annual Junior District Athletics event at Charlton Athletics track, competing against students from 7 other schools.
Â
A well organised and action-packed day saw 54 separate events taking place between 10am and 3pm, with students aiming to achieve their best to be crowned Individual District Champion, and also to earn points for their school in the team competition.
Â
The Harrow Way students had an extremely successful day gaining numerous second and third places on both track and field, and had 7 individual District Champions.
They were: Holly Eaton, Year 7 – 150m
Abu Hussein, Year 7 – Long Jump,
Lucy Mellows, Year 7 – 80m and Long Jump
Ella Howells, Year 8 – Shot Put
George Willetts, Year 8 – Triple Jump
Lewis Parkinson, Year 8 – High Jump
Jamie Barry, Year 7 – Discus
Â
Further success came as it was revealed that the Year 7 Girls gained the most points compared to the other schools in that gender and age group and so won that Team Event category.
Overall, Harrow Way came second out of all the schools; a result they should be very proud of.
Â
Superstars of the day must go to Lucy Mellows, double District Champion, Holly Eaton who came first in 150m and second in the shot put and George Willetts who came first in the triple jump and second in the 100m.
Â
All the students that came placed in the top two for their event will now go forward to represent the District at the County Finals in Southampton on July 8th. We wish them all the best of luck.
