Harrow Way 16½ v John Hanson 18
Harrow Way’s Year 7 rounders team had a close-fought game against John Hanson on a hot Wednesday afternoon. This was their first league game and inexperience showed in the first innings where some stray fielding allowed John Hanson to gain some rounders. Lack of confidence in their batting denied the home team some easy half rounders and they went into the half-way point 9½ rounders to 6½ down.
After a refreshing drink and a team talk by Miss Green where the girls were told to field the ball to Maddie Loftus as bowler or Holly Eaton at fourth base, to deny rounders, the Year 7 team had a much more successful second innings. Some great fielding by the team got four John Hanson players out and kept their total to 8½ rounders from the thirty good balls. The girls took to their second batting with much more determination. Phoebe Williams and Cassie Weeks scored some excellent rounders from long hits and the rest of the team worked hard to pick up half rounders.
However, some excellent fielding left Maddie Loftus as the only player remaining to bat after 24 balls and she too got out after being given three good balls to take as the last batter in. The scores finished a close18 to 16½ to John Hanson and the team should be proud of their efforts. Player of the match goes to Phoebe Williams for her excellent batting.
