During the past few weeks over 80 students currently taking part in the KS 3 Food carousel have been looking at the Design Process within Food Technology and using the TV programme, Ace Of Cakes, based on cake design company Charm City as inspiration, students been working towards designing and creating their own celebration cake designs as part of a Cake Competition. This came to a finale on Friday when Burbidges Bakery and Office Depot came into school to judge the students efforts and award prizes for originality, creativity and skill. 80 students from Years 7, 8 and 9 have taken part in the cake competition.
Year 7 students were given a design brief to create a round 8inch cake with the theme of spring time/Easter. Students had to incorporate the board the cake sat on, into the design of the cake.
Year 8 Students had the same theme as Year 7’s but they were able to alter the shape and size of their cakes, finally Year 9 pupils had an open design brief to create a cake to their chosen theme.
The judges were impressed with the innovation shown in their designs and prizes have been awarded as follows
Best in Competition
Most Innovative Design
Most Commercial/Saleable Design
Year 7, 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes have been awarded. Along with Certificates of Commendation.
Year 8, Joint first prize has been awarded to the two entrants
Year 9, 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes and same as Year 7, Certificates of Commendation
