As part of our on-going commitment to personalise learning for our students, six Year 11 boys participated in a five day Army Boot Camp at Kings Worthy barracks. The event was organised by First Partnership (a local Education Business Partnership) and was open to all schools in the Andover Consortium.
During the week the students were divided into two teams. They took part in many team-building, problem solving and physical challenge activities including the assault course and the overnight ‘bivouac’.
At the end of the week a ‘Graduation’ ceremony took place at ‘The Lights’ theatre in Andover attended by parents and teachers. I am pleased to report that two Harrow Way students, Cameron Graham and Marcus Harrowell, won the awards for the best in their team and Marcus gave a very good speech on behalf of all the students.
All the students found the discipline difficult at first but adapted well and have returned to school determined to succeed in their examinations next June.
