On Thursday 7 February 2008, thirty five Year 10 artists visited the Museum of Army Flying at Middle Wallop to gather visual information for their current project on Made Forms. The students were able to choose from a selection of starting points; ‘Spheres and Cylinders’, ‘Interlocking Forms’, ‘Fastenings’, ‘Locomotion’ and ‘Broken or Damaged’ and the museum more than adequately provided the opportunity to make observational drawings based on these themes. After a packed lunch in the resources room the students climbed back onto the coach and changed into old shoes or wellies ready for the sculpture park at Roche Court, East Winterslow. Once there, they were given a tour of the exhibition of photographs and ceramics in the gallery before looking at large scale artwork in the grounds.Â
There was a competition for the best sketchbook in each teaching group, judged on drawing, presentation and how the student had related the drawings to the chosen theme. Congratulations to the winners Charlotte Ballard, Rebecca Dale and Ayisha Seal, who each won a small prize.
The art department would like to thank George Moore at the museum, and Lucy and Elizabeth from Roche Court, who gave us plenty of information about the artists and the artwork on site, and to the Year 10 students who made it a focused and positive day.
