On Wednesday 16th January Harrow Way hosted the annual district 5-aside football competition. There were 5 teams that entered: Harrow Way, John Hanson, The Clere, Test Valley and Winton.
All teams took a little while to settle, but once they had grasped the rules and spaced themselves out, the standard improved and everyone started to show their real potential.
The Harrow Way girls looked to be one of the stronger teams, namely Ella Howells, Jessica Wilson, Clara Franklin, Rebecca Martin, Kyroz Van Pattern, Anna-Leigh Brookes and Lydia Moulding (Captain), as was the John Hanson team.
Harrow Way managed to win all 3 of their first games and John Hanson had one 2 and drawn 1, therefore it was all resting on the final game of the evening where Harrow Way was played against John Hanson. Unfortunately, Harrow Way concede a penalty and John Hanson managed to score. This unnerved the Harrow Way girls somewhat as they had not conceded a goal all evening until then.
John Hanson then scored another goal and it was too steep a hill for the Harrow Way girls to make a comeback with the games being so short (6 minutes one way).
Miss Escritt felt the girls acquitted themselves well and deserved to win, but it was not to be.
A special mention to Lydia Moulding who worked tirelessly in defence and marshalled her team so well as captain. Well done girls! A fine performance all round.
