The Hampshire Book Award began in May 2006 and was aimed at Year 8. Ten students were chosen to make up the school’s panel of judges.
These students attended the launch meeting where they were introduced to the shortlisted titles, had to read ALL six novels on the shortlist, attended fortnightly ‘in-school’ discussion meetings, and participated in voting for their favourite. Their overwhelming favourite was The Spook’s Apprentice by Joseph Delaney and this went on to win the overall prize.
So, on 1st November the students, together with the Library Manager, Mrs Caulfield, and Clerical Assistant, Mrs Cook, travelled to Winchester Guildhall for the prize-giving presentation to winning author Joseph Delaney.   After hearing Joseph talk about his writing and work, the students had an opportunity to go on stage with Joseph and get their books signed.
The students who took part in the awards were all enthusiastic and hardworking and most managed to read all six books in the time allowed. Mrs Caulfield would like to thank them all for their efforts.
